Steve Biko: The African Revolutionary, Why was he Killed?
On September 12, 1977, the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa was dealt a heavy blow due to the death of Bantu Steve Biko, a popular voice of Black liberation in South Africa between the mid 1960s until his death in police detention in 1977.
Biko was one of the most prominent leaders in the anti-apartheid struggle and in some quarters he was seen as “the most important black South African leader of this generation.” So important, in fact, that the Apartheid Government was terrified of him.

Remembering Steve Bantu Biko, the pioneer of the Black Consciousness Movement
Steve Biko played a pivotal role in empowering and mobilising Black South African's around the ideologies of black self-determination and pride.
Almost half a century ago, Biko died as a result of injuries he sustained in police custody, and to this day no one has been held accountable for his death. With the emergence of various campaigns including the #blacklivesmatter movement, do Biko's ideals represent an idea whose time has finally come? SABC Reporter Natasha Phiri takes us down memory lane

The legacy of Bantu Stephen Biko
Today marks 42 years since the death of Bantu Stephen Biko.
He died from injuries sustained during beatings and torture at the hands of the apartheid security police.
Decades after his death, we look at how far South Africa has come in tackling challenges of poverty and unemployment in democratic South Africa.
Given that Biko was such a strong proponent of Black Consciousness, it would have been interesting to know his views on issues currently facing South Africa.
Thando Sipuye, Programme Officer at the Steve Biko Foundation talks to us about the legacy of Steve Biko.

We were joined by Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, to talk more about Black Consciousness and if the narrative still stands in the modern era

Steve Biko speaks on The Black Consciousness Movement
Martyr of the South African anti-apartheid struggle, Bantu Stephen Biko was a political activist, an author, a founder and the most prominent proponent of the Black Consciousness Movement, a cause for which he died. Born in Tylden on 18 December 1946, he was brought up in Ginsberg, King William's Town and was to become one of the greatest sons of South Africa. He attended primary school in King William's Town and went on to a missionary secondary school in Marianhill, KwaZulu-Natal after being expelled from the former for what was termed 'anti-establishment' behaviour. After completing school, he registered for a degree in medicine at the Black Section of the Medical School of the University of Natal in 1966.
